Why Adopt?

70% of the puppies you will purchase in India come from a puppy mill where the parents would be genetically compromised, kept in inhumane condition, carry contagious diseases or are immunocompromised due to separation from mother much earlier than they should.
By purchasing a puppy – you are directly funding this cruel business that should be completely discontinued.

Pets who have been ill-treated, abandoned or neglected in the past deserve a better future and you have the opportunity to provide that for them! Imagine the positive impact you will make on this pet’s life.

Adoption gives you the choice of adopting an older dogs or cat whose personality has been formed. If you are looking for a calmer, house trained and well-behaved companion for your family – this is your best chance!

Most Organizations who you adopt from will help you pick a dog/cat who is ideal for your family! Organizations will follow a process and make sure the pet you bring home is suitable for your personality and you for them!

All dogs from a shelter come with a complete veterinary assessment!

You will help spread the message / power of adoption and animal welfare!

Members from the Organization are available to you for any enquires or consultation for life!

Why Adopt a Stray India?

  • Desi dogs are well known to be highly intelligent.
  • Desi dogs are sturdy and have great immune systems. We have seen many Desi dogs live over 16 years!
  • You will help a larger mission for the reduction of stray dogs on the street.
  • You will help spread awareness about Desi dogs being great companions!
  • Desi dogs don’t mind the heat – at all! They are perfect for the Mumbai heat
  • Of-course this does not mean you can leave them out in the sun without proper shade and water accessible at all times!
  • Refrain from adopting stray dogs that are happy and comfortable on the street. They love their independence and do not require a home atmosphere to be happy! As long as they are healthy, happy and treated well – let them be!
  • Refrain from bringing home desi puppies that are with their mother in a safe society. They will learn to adapt and stay happy just like their mother as they grow up.
  • Do make sure you get in touch with your closest Organization to get them vaccinated and neutered/spayed so they do not produce any more.
  • Feed stray dogs only if you can continue to do so for the rest of their lives! DO NOT feed stray dogs for a short period of time as this can be detrimental. Stays will learn to get their food – with human interference they may get used to getting their food from you and will be left emotionally distressed if this suddenly stops!

Adopting an Abandoned Dog

It is a myth that adult dogs that have lived previously with a family will not adjust or adapt into a new home.

  • Dogs have a naturally inquisitive nature, so it shouldn’t be long before you can start to see your dog taking an interest in you, his new best friend.
  • Dogs are conditioned to make humans the centre of their world. If that person changes, it’s naturally traumatic for the dog, but he/she will learn to love again.
  • Dogs can be trained at any age!
  • Older dogs are usually calmer, house trained and know basic commands.
  • Older dogs are handed into rehoming centres due to a variety of reasons, including allergies, death of their owner, a new baby, loss of job, a move or change in work schedule. These dogs need homes just as much as younger dogs and make a loyal, fun and wonderful pet!
  • Older dogs are fully grown
  • You know exactly what you’re getting in terms of size and temperament – rather than guessing with a puppy.
  • Adopting an older dog is a wonderful opportunity for you to welcome a new member of the family and can be an incredibly fulfilling experience, while offering a pet a second chance for a happy life.
